A dozen favorite photos from 2013

Uncertain Future, teenage angst, teenager in storm. Got my teenage son Scott all dressed up today for a highschool business presentation competition and while driving the 50 miles to town through a snowstorm, my son in his black suit relaxed and untucked. I realized I had a photo opp coming together in my head. Scott agreed :D (© Daryl Hunter's "The Hole Picture"/Daryl L. Hunter)

Golden Eagle in flight in Swan Valley Idaho. I had a good week in January where 5 of these eagles were hanging out in my valley where I live. (© Daryl Hunter’s “The Hole Picture”/Daryl L. Hunter)

Grizzly at Oxbow Bend in Grand Teton National Park at sunset. This is my favorite photo of the year and maybe the decade. (© Daryl Hunter’s “The Hole Picture”/Daryl L. Hunter)

Why the long face? Grizzly Bear, Grand Teton National Park (© Daryl Hunter's "The Hole Picture"/Daryl L. Hunter)

Why the long face? Grizzly Bear, Grand Teton National Park. I had such an awesome April with the Grizzly Bears that I didn’t feel the need to pursue them as hard as I usually do through may and June. This was a good thing as I was trying to keep on task writing my book. I had several other bear pics I would have liked to use in my favorite 12 but I can’t just post bears, (© Daryl Hunter’s “The Hole Picture”/Daryl L. Hunter)

Working cowgirl, Cattle Drive, Star Valley, Wyoming. My photos are not to be used for anti public land ranching interests. The cowboys of the west are under assault because many don't like to see their cows on public land. I have written a couple of articles articulating the problem. Working cowgirl, Cydnie Clark, Star Valley, Wyoming. It was a pleasure meeting this young cowgirl and her family this year, I hope to do much work with them in the future. (© Daryl Hunter’s “The Hole Picture”/Daryl L. Hunter)

Grizzly 399 new cubs of 2013 in Grand Teton National Park (© Daryl Hunter's "The Hole Picture"/Daryl L. Hunter)

Grizzly 399 new cubs of 2013 in Grand Teton National Park. Not that great of a photo but a favorite photo none the less because it is of grizzly 399 and her third set of triplets.

Lupine, Jackson Lake, Grand Tetons, Grand Teton National Park (© Daryl Hunter's "The Hole Picture"/Daryl L. Hunter)

Lupine, Jackson Lake, Grand Tetons, Grand Teton National Park. This is one of the best wildflower years I have ever seen. That said, I needed a bunch of wildflower pics for my book and maybe I was just more observant 😀 (© Daryl Hunter’s “The Hole Picture”/Daryl L. Hunter)

Grizzly bear and wolves dine together in Yellowstone's Lamar Valley. A grizzly boar, a sow, her three cubs and a pack of wolves share a bison diner. (© Daryl Hunter's "The Hole Picture"/Daryl L. Hunter)

Grizzly bear and wolves dine together in Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley. A grizzly boar, a sow, her three cubs and a pack of wolves share a bison diner. This is another photo that fails the quality test: however, the crazy wildlife dynamics make up for the lack of quality. The YouTube video of this is worth a look = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2d0laFmSbQ&feature=share&list=UUrEkT8Cjv97RyjH6dltasLw&index=2 (© Daryl Hunter’s “The Hole Picture”/Daryl L. Hunter)

Native Yellowstone cutthroat trout rising to eat stonefly in the Yellowstone River in Yellowstone National Park. The river was closed to fishing so I spent three hours watching two large cutthroat trout feed on salmonfly spinners. (© Daryl Hunter’s “The Hole Picture”/Daryl L. Hunter)

Moraine Lake , Banff National Park. (© Daryl Hunter's "The Hole Picture"/Daryl L. Hunter)

Moraine Lake , Banff National Park. I wish I could have spent more time here, Moraine Lake was my favorite landscape in the Canadian Rockies and I wish I could have captured this at sunrise with calm water. This one will have to due until I can return. (© Daryl Hunter’s “The Hole Picture”/Daryl L. Hunter)

Clearing storm, Peyto Lake, Banff National Park. Another place I need to return to until I have it perfect. If I could only spend a season there :D (© Daryl Hunter's "The Hole Picture"/Daryl L. Hunter)

    Daryl,
Your photography is awe-inspiring. They are all so special.

The Grizzly at Oxbow Bend is the photo of a lifetime! The clouds, lighting would make an excellent landscape, but then a grizzly crosses the frame and I feel like I just witnessed a life-changing, epic moment! I did gasp upon viewing it.

Working Cowgirl has me dreaming of her beautiful life…

Trout Rising – as a flyfisher woman, there are times on the river that just watching them for minutes or hours on end is more rewarding than the catching… so beautiful, so much life in the river.

You are richly blessed with talent.

    • Thanks you Karen, The Grizzly at Oxbow Bend I believe as you stated will be one of my career photos. Soon the cowgirl Cydnie will also be dreaming of her beautiful life because her parents, rightfully are insisting she postpone her cow punching days until after she finishes up school which she starts in the fall. Trout rising couldn’t have been captured if the river had been open for fishing. Since it was closed I was happy to spend three hours shooting rising trophy trout.
